GLOBE Observer: Contributing to Scientific Data Collection and Understanding of the Earth
GLOBE Observer is an iPhone app developed by NASA that invites users to make observations of the Earth around them. The app is designed to help scientists better understand satellite data collected by NASA from space. By using the GLOBE Observer app, users become part of the GLOBE community and contribute important scientific data to NASA, GLOBE, their local community, and researchers worldwide.
The current version of GLOBE Observer includes four capabilities. With GLOBE Clouds, users can make regular observations of the Earth's cloud cover and compare them to NASA satellite observations. GLOBE Mosquito Habitat Mapper allows users to locate mosquito habitats, observe and identify mosquito larvae, and help reduce the potential threat of mosquito-borne diseases. GLOBE Land Cover enables users to document what is on the land, such as trees, grass, and buildings. Lastly, GLOBE Trees asks users to estimate a tree's height by taking pictures and answering a few questions.
